The Council on Superconductivity Welcomes Federico Scurti as the Chair of the CSC Young Professionals

Federico Scurti is a Ph.D. student in Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University. Prior to joining NCSU, he received a B.S. in Energy Engineering and an M.S. with highest honors in Energy and Nuclear Engineering from the University of Bologna.

His primary research interests are in the failure mechanisms of high-temperature superconductors and methods for preventing them. He is currently developing a quench detection system based on Rayleigh-backscattering interrogated optical fibers and has advanced and demonstrated the concept of a “smart” conductor that is able to monitor its health as a function of position and time.

Message from Federico:

As Chair of the CSC Young Professionals, my efforts will focus on expanding networking opportunities between young professionals (YPs) and those with advanced experience, and on leveraging connections to facilitate career opportunities & development of YPs.

I strongly believe that by broadening visibility and participation, in conjunction with the creation of the right environment and resources offered by the IEEE CSC, young professionals will be enabled to make a significant contribution to our community and an impact on our society.
