ABSOLUTE ZERO TELEVISION DOCUMENTARY

The IEEE Council on Superconductivity (CSC) would like to call to the attention of interested individuals a two-hour television documentary program entitled:

"ABSOLUTE ZERO and THE CONQUEST OF COLD."

The program was broadcast in the USA on Public Broadcasting System (PBS) stations, the first hour on January 8, 2008, and the second hour on January 15, 2008 and repeated afterwards.

You may also view any of the ten chapters anytime online: www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/zero/program.html

These programs are based largely on the book, Absolute Zero and the Conquest of Cold by Tom Schachtman  [Houghton Muffin Co. New York, NY, (1999)  ISBN 0-595-93888-0] and explore key concepts, significant individuals and events in the field of low-temperature physics and the enormous impact that the mastery of cold has had on society through such technologies as air conditioning, refrigeration and liquefied gases.

Although the program is written for the average informed person, there are many interesting facts and supporting materials about low temperature physics and technology for experts in the field, both in the USA as well as worldwide.  Additional information can be found on the Internet at the following URL:
