Background:

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first Applied Superconductivity Conference, which was held at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in November, 1966, the IEEE Council on Superconductivity and the Applied Superconductivity Conference, Inc. sponsored the preparation of a Digital Archive containing the proceedings and/or transactions of the twenty-one Applied Superconductivity Conferences that were held from 1966 through 2004.  The DVD sets were initially distributed in the registration package at the 2006 Applied Superconductivity Conference, which was held in Seattle WA (USA) from 27 August through 1 September, as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first ASC.

The transactions of 16 of the 21 ASCs appeared in various IEEE Transaction publications and the IEEE Xplore Database operation provided the metadata files and the PDF files for these conferences.  Material not available in digital format from IEEE Xplore had to be digitally scanned for the Archive.

The transactions of the 1967, 1968 and 1970 Applied Superconductivity Conferences were published in the Journal of Applied Physics and access to this material was arranged with the American Institute of Physics, which holds the copyright to this journal.

As the transactions of the 2006 and future Applied Superconductivity Conferences become available, it is the intent of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity to periodically update the Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive.

Since more than 99.5 percent of the material in the Digital Archive is copyrighted either by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) or by the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the Applied Superconductivity Digital Archive is for individual personal use only.  For any other use of the Digital Archive, written permission must be obtained from the appropriate copyright holders.

Format:

The ASC Digital Archive contains the full text of more than 10,000 articles published in the proceedings/transactions of the various ASCs with the files for all of the articles from 1966 through 1994 ASC contained on one DVD disk and those from the 1996 through 2004  ASC on the second  DVD disk. Each disk is fully searchable by conference, author, title and key words. The total size of the two DVD disks is about 5.4 GB.

Additional Information or Questions:

For additional information or questions about the IEEE Council on Superconductivity Digital Archive, please contact Martin Nisenoff, Chair of the CSC Digital Archive Committee.

What is needed need to read the DVD  set?

The DVD set allows many different platforms to view the text. The material on the DVD set was published using Adobe(TM) Acrobat(TM) technology to create portable document format (PDF) files. For information on the hardware requirements to read these DVD disks, CLICK HERE

Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive

It would have been convenient to the applied superconductivity community if the Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive could have been made available online to all interested researchers but that was not possible since almost of the Adobe ® .pdf files that make up the Archive are protected by copyrights.

However, the metadata for the Digital Archive, (that is, the conference listings, the list of articles for each conference and the titles and abstracts of the articles, etc.) are free from copyright, and therefore, this material can be reviewed by clicking the link below in order to preview the Digital Archive.  THIS TRUNCATED ARCHIVE  DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE FILES OF THE MANUSCRIPTS OF THE ARTICLES PRESENTED AT  THE VARIOUS APPLIED SUPERCONDUCTIVITY CONFERENCES.

Once you have located an article of interest in this truncated Digital Archive,  if the article is in the IEEE Xplore database, by clicking on the title of the article, you will be directed to the Xplore Login Page which will indicate how you can obtain a copy of the manuscript.  If the article is not in IEEE Xplore Database, there will be no response when you click on the title of the article.

Search Indexes

Because this is an Adobe Acrobat®/Reader® Version 7 file, the following issues for Version 5 and Version 6 users may be encountered:

1. This Electronic Guide uses an Adobe Reader® Version 7 Search index to provide the full-text search functionality of this product. The Adobe Reader® Version 7 Search index is not compatible with Adobe Acrobat®/Reader® Version 5 and the message “The index associated with this document (MASTER7.PDX) is not available” will appear when the Electronic Guide launches and each time you return to the Electronic Guide after viewing a paper. An Adobe Reader® Version 5 Search index (MASTER5.PDX) is included on the disc and can be used for searching. To use the Adobe Reader® Version 5 Search index:
a) Click on the Search button in your toolbar.
b) Click on the Indexes… button in the Search Window.
c) Click on the Add button and browse to your CD-ROM
     drive.
d) Highlight the file named MASTER5.PDX and click on the
     Open button
e) Click on the Okay button and it will return you to the
Search Window and you will be able to conduct searches with
the version 5 index.
2. Adobe Reader® Version 5 and Version 6 users may receive the message “This file may contain newer information than this viewer can support. Adobe recommends you upgrade….There is a “Do not show this message again” box that can be checked to suppress the message.
