To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first Applied Superconductivity Conference, which was held at the Brookhaven National
Laboratory in November, 1996, the IEEE Council on Superconductivity and the Applied Superconductivity Conference, Inc. sponsored the preparation of a
Digital Archive containing the proceedings and/or transactions of the twenty-one Applied Superconductivity Conferences that were held from 1966 through
2004. The DVD sets were initially distributed in the registration package at the 2006 Applied Superconductivity Conference, which was held in Seattle WA (USA) from 27 August through 1
September, as part of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first ASC.
The transactions of 16 of the 21 ASCs appeared in various IEEE Transaction publications and the IEEE Xplore® Database operation provided the metadata files and
the PDF files for these conferences. Material not available in digital format from IEEE Xplore®
had to be digitally scanned for the Archive. The transactions of the 1967, 1968 and 1970 Applied Superconductivity
Conferences were published in the Journal of Applied Physics and access to this material was arranged with the
American Institute of Physics, which hold the copyright to this journal. As the transactions of the 2006 and future
Applied Superconductivity Conferences become available, it is the intent of the IEEE Council on Superconductivity to periodically update the Applied
Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive.
Since more than 99.5 percent of the material in the Digital
Archive is copyrighted either by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) or by the American Institute of Physics (AIP), the
Applied Superconductivity Digital Archive is for individual personal use only. For any other use of the Digital Archive,
written permission must be obtained from the appropriate copyright holders.
The ASC Digital Archive contains the full text of more than
10,000 articles published in the proceedings/transactions of the various ASCs with the files for all of the articles from the 1966
through 1994 ASC contained on one DVD disk and those from the 1996 through 2004 ASC on the second DVD disk. Each disk is fully searchable by conference, author, title and key
words. The total size of the two DVD disks is about 5.4 GB.
Ordering Instructions:
The ID Product Number for the ASC Digital Archive is IEEE Product No.: JD4104 and the ISBN number is 0-7803-9799-1. The IEEE Council on Superconductivity Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive DVD Set is available for purchase from the IEEE Store by calling +1 800 678 IEEE (4333) (from outside the US
or CANADA, call +1 732 981 0060), or by going online, and following these steps:
1) In the URL window of your browser type in the following: http://www.ieee.org.
2) When the IEEE homepage appears, click on “SHOP” button (the second from the left of seven buttons) in the upper right hand corner of
the IEEE homepage.
3) In the next browser page titled “The IEEE Shop”, there is a small window in the right hand column labeled “Search the IEEE Shop”.
In this window, type either “Applied Superconductivity Conferences” or the Digital Archive Product Number “PUBJD4104” and then click on the button “Search” to the right of this window.
4) The next browser window provides information about the “Applied Superconductivity Conferences 1966-2004”. To order the digital Archive from the IEEE Shop, click on the button
“Add to Cart”. When ordering the Digital Archive, be attentive that the charge shown is the one appropriate for your status as an IEEE Member or as a non-member.
Cost:
The cost is substantially lower for IEEE members than for the general public. (To join IEEE, visit www.ieee.org or call +1 800 678 IEEE (4333). The List Price for the IEEE Council on
Superconductivity Digital Archive DVD set is $3,995.00 for non IEEE Members and $95.00 for IEEE Members. All payments must be in US dollars, drawn on US banks. (There are no student discounts!) The product was available for shipping from
the IEEE Store (as of 1 October 2008).
Additional Information or Questions:
For additional information or questions about the IEEE Council on Superconductivity Digital Archive,
please contact Martin Nisenoff, Chair of the CSC
Digital Archive Committee.
What is needed to read the DVD set?:
The DVD set allows many different platforms to view the text.
The material on the DVD set was published using Adobe Acrobat®
technology to create portable document format (PDF) files. For information on the hardware requirements
to read these DVD disks, please visit the "Getting Started" section.
Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive
It would have been convenient to the applied superconductivity community if the Applied Superconductivity
Conference Digital Archive could have been made available on-line to all interested researchers but that was not possible since almost all of the Adobe® PDF files that make up the Archive are protected by
copyrights. However, the metadata for the Digital Archive, (that is, the conference listings, the list of articles for each conference and the titles and abstracts of the articles, etc.) are free from copyright and, therefore, this material
can be reviewed by clicking the link below in order to preview the Digital Archive. THIS TRUNCATED ARCHIVE DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY OF THE FILES OF THE MANUSCRIPTS OF THE ARTICLES PRESENTED AT THE VARIOUS APPLIED SUPERCONDUCTIVITY CONFERENCES. Once you have located an article of interest in this truncated
Digital Archive if the article is in the IEEE Xplore® database, by clicking on the title of the article, you will be directed to the ® Login Page which
will indicate how you can obtain a copy of the manuscript. If the article is not in IEEE
Xplore® Database, the paper title will display in black text with no hyperlink.
On the other hand, if you find the Digital Archive of interest, you can purchase the DVD set of the complete Applied Superconductivity Conference Digital Archive 1966-2004 from the
IEEE Store
The IEEE Council on
Superconductivity and the Applied Superconductivity Conference, Inc. hope you
enjoy this Digital Archive and find it an invaluable research tool. At the
present time, future versions of the ASC Digital Archive are not planned;
however, if you have comments and suggestions on how a future version of this
Digital Archive might be improved, I would be interested in hearing from you.
